Neurosciences at University Health System

Nowhere else in South Texas are specialty-trained doctors, nurses and staff on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week working with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to read diagnostic tests, continuously monitor patients, and available to provide neurology services, and emergency adult and pediatric Neurosurgery.

The Neurosciences Center of Excellence at University Health System works in partnership with UT Medicine San Antonio to offer the most up-to-date treatments to combat a range of disorders that deal with the brain, skull, spine, and nerve conditions.

Neuroscience Specialties

Patients come to our hospital from miles around to take advantage of our world-class neurology services that include the South Texas Comprehensive Epilepsy Center (STCEC), the only center in South Texas where continuous EEG monitoring can take place and where area doctors refer their patients for this round-the-clock diagnostic study and care. This Level 4 Epilepsy Center provides the most complex forms of neurodiagnostics monitoring and complete evaluations for epilepsy and neurosurgery.

In the areas of spine, stroke and craniosynostosis, University Hospital is a leader in research, equipment, and treatment. University Hospital is one of the select few in the world to use the O-arm®Imaging System for spine surgery allowing the surgeon to see clear, real-time images of the body to know precisely where to place instruments and make the best decisions during surgery.

Our stroke team is available around the clock to respond to patients with acute stroke symptoms – University Hospital has neurology, neurosurgery and neuroradiology doctors to diagnose and treat all types of strokes and brain aneurysms.

Hundreds of children have grown up to live normal lives thanks to a newer, less invasive treatment – Endoscopic-assisted Craniectomy. Patients as young as 12 weeks, and some from as far away as Brazil, Chile, and Saudi Arabia, have been treated through this groundbreaking procedure.

Find out more about our Neurodiagnostic Center and Neurosurgery Services.

Here you will find the best doctors, fellows, nurses, technicians, research and technology working together to perform medical miracles every day. Thousands of personal stories of patients, their families, and hospital staff are living proof.
