Infectious diseases care is provided through a partnership between University Health and UT Health San Antonio. As an academic medical center, we offer our patients leading-edge treatment based on the most current research in a safe environment.

If you have an infectious disease, you can feel confident in the care you’ll receive at University Hospital. Our infectious diseases specialists are on the forefront of innovative treatments and work closely with doctors in other specialties to provide you with expert medical care.

We also understand the emotional effects illness carries. We connect you with social services to support you and your family throughout your illness and recovery.


We provide care for a wide array of infectious diseases including:

  • Antibiotic-resistant infections such as MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus)
  • Bacterial, fungal, viral and parasitic infections
  • Chickenpox
  • Hand, foot and mouth disease
  • Hospital-acquired infections including Staph infections
  • Immunosuppression from bone marrow or solid organ transplant
  • Leprosy
  • Pertussis (whooping cough)
  • Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) such as chlamydia and gonorrhea
  • Traumatic injury infections
  • Tuberculosis

We also oversee an active travel medicine clinic and patients returning with malaria, dengue and other tropical diseases.


Family-Focused AIDS Clinical Treatment Services (FFACTS) is an outpatient HIV/AIDS clinic. Our clinic provides medical care and other types of support to improve the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS and their families. Learn how we can help.
