Excellence in Emergency Care
The emergency department is part of University Hospital's Level I trauma center. This designation guarantees that you will get the best possible emergency or trauma care from the region's finest physicians and surgeons.
We are also proud to be the region's only accredited comprehensive stroke center by The Joint Commission. The American College of Cardiology also certified University Hospital as an accredited chest pain center. When you have a stroke or a heart attack, you can count on us for the finest care.
Very Important Kids
University Health has a Very Important Kids (VIK) program in partnership with UT Health San Antonio. This program is for children who have a chronic medical condition such as cystic fibrosis, a heart condition, kidney disease or cancer. We give parents a VIK identification card to present in the emergency room. The doctors and nurses can then call your specialist for recommendations about how to treat your child.
The VIK program ensures your child’s care is speedy and you don’t have to explain your child’s medical history every time. Parents of Very Important Kids tell us how much they appreciate the extra level of service.
