Texas Diabetes Institute Children’s Center
The Children’s Center at Texas Diabetes Institute (TDI) specializes in the treatment of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in children. Our providers use a comprehensive approach in diagnosis and treatment in order to give the best patient care. In addition, our physicians manage growth, thyroid, adrenal, and puberty disorders, as well as rare endocrine disorders in neonates to adolescents.
As part of the University Health System, an academic medical center in partnership with UT Health San Antonio, TDI is at the forefront of diabetes research providing vital information on the effective treatments of diabetes in kids with studies like TODAY and TrialNet. There are currently several studies related to both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes prevention and treatment undergoing. Patients in the diabetes program are frequently given the opportunity to participate in these types of studies. Please visit our research page for links to ongoing diabetes research studies.
Our comprehensive clinic includes our Wellness team which serves children with weight management issues. We have a dedicated team that works with each patient and their families to meet their specific needs. Many of our patients are able to attend the Project Power, a camp that is led by our UT providers.
Camp Independence is a one-week Type 1 diabetes day camp for children and their siblings.
The local chapter of JDRF has events in San Antonio and in the surrounding area.
