Diabetes in Children

The Texas Diabetes Institute is part of a global effort to better understand and help eliminate type I and type II diabetes in children and adolescents.

Current research initiatives, improved technology and advancements in endocrine pancreatic tissue replacement aim to provide the following for all children with type I diabetes:

  • more freedom
  • better glucose control
  • less diabetes complications
  • normal life expectancy
  • superior quality of life

Type II diabetes in children and adolescents has grown significantly over the last 10-15 years. The Texas Diabetes Institute is engaged in a variety of clinical trials and research studies that curtail the development of diabetes and promote healthy habits amongst youth. This is of particular importance for children with strong family history of type II diabetes.

If you or someone you know wants to participate in pediatric studies, please contact Rose Ann Barajas at barajasr@uthscsa.edu or 210-562-5227.
