Volunteer Services

Since 1955, University Health has offered quality healthcare to the residents of Bexar County, South Texas, and beyond. The mission of University Health is to promote the good health of the community by providing the highest quality of care to both inpatients and outpatients, by teaching the next generation of health professionals and by supporting research, thereby, advancing medical knowledge and improving the delivery of patient care.

University Health and the Volunteer Services Department view volunteers as a vital part of the team and take great pride in providing caring, dependable, and compassionate individuals to assist in various departments within our facilities throughout San Antonio.

Our exceptional volunteers assist patients with way-finding and answering questions at the information desk, delivering magazines to many department waiting areas, visiting with patients and families, filing, and much more.

A volunteer's time is always appreciated. Most opportunities are available year round and the Volunteer Services Department asks volunteers to commit to a minimum of four hours, one day a week.

University Health provides several volunteer programs. There are many opportunities for you to give back to your community and discover the joys of service:

You are over the age of 18 and no longer in high school. Learn more about our many Adult Volunteer Programs.

You need to volunteer as a part of college requirements. Learn more about our College Program.

You are between 15 and 17 years of age, and still in high school. Learn more about our Junior Volunteer Summer Program.

The Volunteer Services Department strives to provide a caring, safe, and enjoyable environment for our patients and our volunteers. In order to do this, there are several steps in the application process that need to be completed before you can become a part of the University Health volunteer program. The entire process, start to finish, may take up to four weeks to complete.

The Volunteer Roadmap is provided to guide you along the application process.
