Exceptional Care in a Comfortable Environment

We are committed to providing you and your baby exceptional care at University Health during your pregnancy and beyond. As the first Level IV Maternal Facility (highest level) in South Texas designated by the Texas Department of State Health Services, you can expect to receive specialized care from our expert maternal team throughout your pregnancy, labor and delivery, and a smooth transition home with your baby. Through our partnership with UT Health San Antonio, we use leading-edge therapies and techniques to improve pregnancy outcomes in San Antonio and all of South Texas.

We provide outstanding prenatal care for all women, including the most high-risk patients. We are the area’s only health system with an OB triage in a hospital with a comprehensive, physician-led women’s Emergency Department for any serious pregnancy concern throughout your term, and we provide access to every specialist you might require 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

When you go into labor, University provides an unparalleled birthing experience. We always have a maternal-fetal medicine physician, obstetrician, neonatologist, anesthesiologist and supporting labor and delivery medical staff such as a midwife and registered nurses in-house 24/7 to take care of any need.

Our maternity care program is recognized as a designated Center of Excellence by BlueCross BlueShield of Texas and BlueCross BlueShield Association.

If your baby arrives prematurely or experiences difficulties adjusting after birth, you can rest a little easier knowing he or she will receive the best possible care in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. University Hospital offers a Level IV (highest level) NICU in South Texas.

If you cannot be with your baby in the NICU because you live outside San Antonio and cannot travel to the hospital frequently, you may be able to take advantage of our unique Angel Eye system. Angel Eye lets you interact with your baby in real time through a high-quality camera and secure, online interface.

We also offer Baby Chat for mothers recovering after delivery who can’t get to the NICU. This technology allows you to see and hear your infant by using an iPad. We help you feel like you’re at the NICU bedside even when you can’t be there in person.
