Injury prevention is the only cure for traumatic illness and injury. The experts in our Injury Prevention Department lead our safety efforts for children and adults with educational programs and safety
workshops designed to prevent unintentional and intentional injury, such as:
Trauma is the leading, preventable cause of death and injury in the United
States. In fact, all of the injuries we treat in our Level I Trauma Center for adult care and our Level I Pediatric Trauma Center are 100 percent preventable. The need for
greater injury prevention efforts is clear.
We work with the Texas Department of State Health Services EMS/Trauma Registry and the
Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council for Trauma (STRAC) to understand the leading causes of death and
injury throughout South Texas. This information combined with our own
trauma research identifies high-risk activity in our
community so we can plan, develop and implement programming in those
critical areas.
