If your child faces a neurological disorder, you want to go where you can get the best medical care available. At University Health System we diagnose and treat numerous conditions that affect the brain, skull, spine and nervous system.
The Neuroscience Center of Excellence in partnership with the neurology and neurosurgery divisions of UT Health San Antonio produces extraordinary outcomes and life-changing results.
Treatment is provided for a wide range of neurological injuries and complex diseases. Our mission to deliver superior pediatric neuroscience services has led to several areas of specialty. We receive referrals from other hospitals to handle complicated cases. For example, we treat craniosynostosis, tethered cord abnormalities and Chiari malformations. We’re known for our expertise in the following programs:
Our pediatric neurosurgeons have a long history of using the most advanced equipment. When possible, we perform minimally invasive surgery and offer our patients the option of an endoscopic-assisted craniectomy. We perform this less-invasive technique on infants as young as two-weeks old. It results in less trauma to the child’s system and faster recovery times.
Our Level IV Epilepsy Center has earned the highest accreditation awarded by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers. We offer the only comprehensive epilepsy treatment center in South and Central Texas. It’s the largest epilepsy-monitoring center in Texas that treats both pediatric and adult patients. Our physician-led team is on standby 24/7.
Our Spine Center is one of only a few to use the O-arm® Imaging System for surgery. It allows surgeons to see clear, real-time images of the spine allowing for precise and exact placement of instruments which increases desirable results after surgery.
