Three new honorees to be inducted in the Texas Diabetes Institute Wall of Honor on Wednesday.
BACKGROUND: Since 2001, the Wall of Honor at the Texas Diabetes Institute has recognized those who have made extraordinary contributions in the treatment, prevention and public awareness of diabetes in our community — and beyond.
Those contributions aren’t limited to a single accomplishment, but represent many successes over the long haul. Their victories range from significant improvements in expanding access to healthy food and health education, developing new and better treatments and, most importantly, helping patients keep up the daily fight against diabetes and its devastating, long-term complications.
The Dr. Saul Treviño Wall of Honor pays tribute to the memory of a pioneering doctor who more than 50 years ago taught diabetes management in our community by encouraging his patients to eat right and exercise regularly. Each year, new inductees are added to this Wall of Honor for their advocacy in helping build better lives for patients with diabetes.
This year’s inductees will be honored Wednesday at the Pearl Stable, each of them represented by a traditional milagro used at TDI to symbolize an area of accomplishment — the foot, symbolizing the foundation of education; the eye, symbolizing the vision of research; and the heart, symbolizing care.
