Microbiology Scientist

Performs procedures for testing or analysis on specimens submitted to the laboratory. Evaluates test results for accuracy and submits results for the purpose of aiding the physician in diagnostic and therapeutic treatment of patients. Performs analyses that may involve a complex network of steps, variable fine-line discriminations of several parameters, correction of a variety of errors, and the operation and maintenance of complicated instruments. Performs assigned duties rapidly and accurately. Plans work activities and makes decisions connected with own work. Recognizes unusual results and/or abnormalities and takes prompt and appropriate action to assure the accuracy and validity of test result. Assumes accountability for the dissemination of patient information to ensure the confidentiality and privacy of patients. Duties may also include performance of procedures associated with procurement of specimens from patients.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology or an appropriate biological/chemical/medical science from an accredited college or university

Licensure/Certification:

Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) or American Medical Technologist (AMT). Certification in Specialty for area of laboratory employment required without a Medical Technologist (or equivalent) certification. Must maintain certification status in compliance with specifications for continuing education required by the certification agency.

Quality & Compliance Coordinator

Responsible for the design, coordination, implementation, and oversight of the quality system activities to support the quality management and compliance program, as well as education and other programs for the University Health System Pathology Services and Outpatient Clinic Laboratories.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology or medical science from an accredited college or university

Licensure/Certification:

Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) or American Medical Technologist (AMT). Certification in Specialty for area of laboratory employment required without a Medical Technologist (or equivalent) certification. Medical Laboratory Scientist

Licensure/Certification:

Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT), or United States Department of Health, Education and Welfare (HEW). New Graduates or candidates with no prior experience must obtain a certification in clinical laboratory sciences or laboratory specialty within the first six (6) months from date of hire.

Medical Interpreter/Translator

Responsible for listening to, understanding, reading and translating spoken language from English to another language. Translates written documents from English to another language. Supports compliance with Joint Commission Accreditation Standards, CMS Conditions of Participation and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as well as the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Three years interpreting experience, two years medial interpreting experience OR equivalent education/experience
  • Experience working in a high-technology tertiary medical/surgical setting preferred
  • Essential function: bilingual in Spanish speaking and writing is a requirement

Licensure/Certification:

  • Certified Healthcare Interpreter or Certified Medical Interpreter credential preferred
  • Associated Healthcare Interpreter credential OR successful completion of Part 1 of the Certified Medical Interpreter Examination OR completion of approved healthcare interpreter training is required

Genetic Counselor

As the Genetic Counselor for University Health System, you will become the coach and mentor for residents, fellows and faculty.

University Hospital's status as a Level I trauma center has been continuous since 1997. As one of two Level I adult trauma centers with its military partner Brooke Army Medical Center, and as the only Level I pediatric trauma center in the region, University Hospital cares for thousands of patients each year from throughout a 22-county region of South Texas. The Genetic Counselor will visit with the patients and family members of our diverse patient population.

Credentialing Manager – Professional Staff Services

Manages the quality and production of the Credential Verification Services and Medical Staff Services process. The qualified applicant will have experience in primary sourcing credentials and have had participated in joint commission audits.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or equivalent experience is required
  • Supervisory experience is required
  • A minimum of five years of experience in medical staff services, graduate medical education and/or centralized verification services in a complex health system is preferred
  • Working knowledge JCAHO, NCQA, CMS, federal, state and regulatory agency requirements; as well as, ACGME policies and procedures are required

Licensure/Certification

  • Certified by the National Association of Medical Staff Services is preferred

Services Operations Manager – Language Services

Ensure the delivery of high quality, cost effective language assistance services through a variety of mediums for limited English proficiency and hearing impaired individuals. Develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive interpretation services competency validation program for clinical and support staff.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in World Languages & Cultures, Business, Health Care Administration or related field
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in communication, Limited English Proficiency, diversity, or related field
  • Must have certification as an English/Spanish Language Interpreter

EEG Trainee – Neurodiagnostic Department

Are you an MA or Tech looking for a career change?
The Neurodiagnostic Center is accepting applications for PRN EEG Tech Trainees! Trainees are provided on-the-job technical skill training as well as study material and guidance to help prepare you to become a Registered EEG Technologist.

Position Summary

An electroencephalographic (EEG) technician or technologist, also known as an electroneurodiagnostic (END) technologist, is a trained medical professional who uses specialized equipment to locate brain abnormalities such as epilepsy and other types of seizure activity. EEG technicians are trained to operate machines known as electroencephalographs, which are used to measure and record the electrical activity of brain waves via electrodes secured to the patient's scalp. The technicians use these devices to administer tests called electroencephalograms (EEGs), which may then detect brain disorders or damage. The career field is in high demand nationally, offering competitive and increasing salaries for those who obtain one or more of the four credentials offered in the field.

Qualifications include:

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • No previous EEG experience required, but preferred
  • Prerequisite college level courses in anatomy and physiology, basic electronics and medical terminology preferred

CT Technologist

Position Summary

  • Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment and ingenuity
  • Makes independent value judgments when supervision is not available
  • Assumes responsibility for achieving quality work, setting up patient load and maintaining schedules
  • Individual responsibility for specified CT procedures
  • Performs assigned duties promptly and efficiently

  • Radiology Associates Degree required
