Roadmap

E-mail

The following will give you an idea of what to expect as you prepare to become a University Health System volunteer.

Step 1: Application

Submit the application to our office. You may mail, email, or fax it. We will submit a background check. You will hear from us by mail or phone depending on the results of the background check. Typically, it takes about five days to get the results back.

Mail: Volunteer Services Fax: (210) 358-4801
4502 Medical Drive
San Antonio, TX 78229

Email: loretta.lapoint@uhs-sa.com

Step 2: Interview

Step 3: Health Screen

Once you have passed the background check, you will need to set an appointment with the Employee Health Clinic at University Hospital on Medical Drive. The health screen involves a mini physical, a urine drug test, and a TB test.

Important: The TB test will require a second visit, 48 hours after the administration of the test, to determine the results. You will need to bring the following items with you at the time of your second appointment.

  • Current driver's license
  • A list of the medications you are currently taking, if any
  • Immunization records-if you do not have your records, a blood test may be performed to determine the presence of certain antibodies. The blood test is free of charge. If antibodies are not present you will be informed immediately and given the option of having the vaccines administered by our staff at a cost, visit with your doctor, or go to any of the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District offices.

Step 4: Orientation, Badge, Parking

After your second visit to the health clinic, you will need to:

  • Visit the Volunteer Services Department, using elevator A to the sublevel.
  • Complete a self-guided orientation. This should take approximately one hour to complete.
  • Take a photo for your volunteer badge.
  • You are required to provide proof of vehicle registration and insurance before a parking permit can be issued for your vehicle.
