Deaths for children 18 and under number more than 12,000 each year in the U.S., according to the National Trauma Institute. At University Hospital’s Janey Briscoe Children’s Center (9th floor, D elevators), we provide expert care for seriously injured children and a full-service burn program for children. If your child is seriously injured and taken to University Hospital, he, or she, will be immediately evaluated by our waiting trauma team. Lab work, X-ray and CT scans will be done, and a trauma surgeon will inform you of your child’s injuries and plan for care. After surgery, your child will be moved to our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in the Janey Briscoe Children’s Center on the ninth floor, which provides critically-ill and injured children a low nurse-to-patient ratio and a staff of faculty pediatricians with extensive experience handling even the most complex cases.
