The Texas Diabetes Institute (TDI) of the University Health System in Bexar County, Texas, was created to assist communities throughout South Texas and beyond with health care issues associated with diabetes. TDI's Self-Management Training program is designed to provide state-of-the-art information, skills and tools to individuals and families with diabetes. The individual with diabetes is team captain of the diabetes health team as they manage their diabetes on a day to day basis. Other members of the diabetes health care team include physicians, diabetes educators, dietitians and social workers.

Individuals with diabetes need education to allow them to make lifestyle changes and self-manage their diabetes. The Education program at staff at the Texas Diabetes Institute helps empower individuals to be come effective self-managers and to make healthier choices everyday. Helping people and their families affected by diabetes and working towards improved care of this chronic condition in our communities is part of our goal.
