Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit

Rest. Assured.

The road to recovery after your traumatic injury may be a long one. Fortunately, you won’t have to make the trip alone because we have dedicated caregivers every step along the way. Our experts in the Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit (STICU) provide round-the-clock care while you recover. This unit is typically the first of several stops along the way toward rehabilitation.

Our List of Priorities: You

Highly trained STICU nurses each care for one to two patients through their transition to wellness. The unit is staffed with trauma-trained critical care nurses and the full support of a multidisciplinary team of physicians and other specialists. The unit’s advanced monitoring technology lets our medical professionals watch every hour of your improvement as you regain strength.

Condition Reports

Condition Reports Please call 210-743-1700 to request your loved one’s condition report. We only ask that you designate one family to be our nurses’ point of contact.

Waiting Areas

Your family members are important parts of your support team, and we encourage them to gather in the waiting area nearest you. Our nurses share condition reports with your point of contact, discuss tests, explain procedures and answer questions face to face at your bedside. You family’s contact can then share the information quickly with family in the waiting area to keep them informed.

Visiting Hours

Friends and family may visit STICU patients from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Since infections are life-threatening, we require children under 14 to have permission from the charge nurse or a patient care coordinator to visit patients in the STICU.
