We are the only National Cancer Institute (NCI) - designated cancer center in South Texas. Through our partnership with UT Medicine San Antonio, our patients have access to a comprehensive assortment of treatment options, research studies and excellent care.

Our cancer programs are accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC). This accreditation assures that we provide access to a range of services needed to diagnose, treat, rehabilitate and support cancer patients and their families.

University Health System also is one of only four organizations in Texas recognized as a Breast Center of Excellence. This honor from the National Quality Measures for Breast Centers (NQMBC) represents a commitment to provide the highest level of quality breast care to patients.

Cancer Screening, Prevention & Treatment

At University, we provide comprehensive services that help prevent, diagnose and treat cancers and blood disorders.


Risk Assessment

Our cancer screening and prevention program offers comprehensive cancer risk assessments and risk-reduction strategies for individuals with a higher risk of cancer due to hereditary or genetic factors.

Our genetic counselors:

  • Conduct detailed genetic evaluations, including a review of family history and risk assessment
  • Coordinate genetic testing and explain what the results of a genetic test mean for the patient and their family members
  • Provide personalized cancer screening recommendations
  • Recommend cancer risk-reduction options
  • Offer up-to-date information on research opportunities in cancer treatment

Infusion Center

University Hospital has an onsite outpatient infusion center. Our mobile vascular access team uses state-of-the-art equipment to provide specialized care.

We offer the following services:

  • Blood transfusion
  • Hormone injections
  • Lab work
  • PICC line insertion
