Learning about Asthma

Asthma Education

The Asthma Education and Self-Management Program is a comprehensive program aimed to provide and educate adult and pediatric patients on methods of intervention following acute asthma episodes. This program is designed to have the individual actively involved in his or her own treatment.

The program:

  • Provides basic information on asthma education.
  • Normalizes patient's lifestyle by taking into account asthma triggers in the home environment through recommendations and interventions.
  • Educates patient on proper monitoring techniques of lung function and medication delivery.
  • Develops action plans for management of acute asthma episodes.
  • Decreases cost associated with emergency room visits by providing asthma education and self-management techniques.
  • Classes conducted by Respiratory Therapists who are Certified Asthma Educators.
  • Classes are approximately two hours long covering lung function, trigger control, medication, inhaler and peak flow usage, self-monitoring skills, question/answering session.
