Professional Practice Model of Care

A belief and commitment based on a theory, phenomenon, or system that depicts how nurses practice, collaborate, communicate, and develop professionally. It is a health system model. It is the "WHY" of performing nursing care.

Components of our Professional Practice Model

• professional standards of practice
• ANA code of ethics
• scope of practice

These components serve as the overarching explanation for expected professional role behavior.  Performance of the professional role can change the course of events in the patient’s life.

UHS believes an autonomous and supportive work environment is the foundation of the Professional Practice Model. The Model is essential to promote professional role development of the nurse and to strive for practice excellence.
