Pediatric Transition Unit

The Pediatric Transition Unit provides care for the non-critical patient. This unit boasts telemetry and oximetry capability in every patient bed, and a staff experienced in the care of children with complex problems.

Board-certified pediatric hospitalists are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the primary care of all patients and for consultation on patients managed by private pediatricians or surgical specialists. All Janey Briscoe physicians are pediatric faculty in the division of critical care for The UT Health Science Center at San Antonio.
The pediatric inpatient service is dedicated to providing comprehensive care to our child patients, providing both primary physician services and consultant services for children admitted to the Janey Briscoe Children’s Center

Every child will be followed by members of the pediatric inpatient service in conjunction with other physician specialists. Our mission is to provide unsurpassed continuity of care, individualized treatment and a family-centered recovery.

Physicians referring patients to the Janey Briscoe Children’s Center will receive regular updates of their patients’ status and will have an opportunity to participate in their inpatient care if desired.

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Managing the care of critically ill children and expediting their recoveries is the mission of the staff of the impressive Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. A low nurse -to-patient ratio ensures each patient is monitored closely and enables nurses to be at the bedside, serving as an important resource for the families of our children. A team of pediatric intensivists is available on the unit at all times to immediately respond to the critical needs of ICU patients and to maintain contact with referring physicians.

Faculty pediatricians from the division of pediatric critical care medicine at The UT Health Science Center at San Antonio staff the Janey Briscoe ICU and all have extensive experience in handling even the most complex cases.

Continuity of intensive care services is maintained through the contributions of a full-time nurse practitioner who manages the continuum of care and recovery for all patients.
