Medications
- On the morning of surgery, take your regular medications with no more than one ounce of water.
- Do not take diabetes medicines unless your doctor tells you to.
- If you take blood thinners such as Coumadin, Heparin, or Lovenox, please contact your doctor for instructions.
- Remove all nail polish and jewelry, including
piercings before coming to the hospital.
- Do not bring any valuables (money, wallet,
purse or jewelry) to the hospital.
- Leave any luggage in your car until after
your surgery.
- Wear loose fitting clothes that will fit
over large bandages (such as sweats, baggy
shorts, and t-shirts).
- Allow adequate time for travel. If you
arrive late, it may cause your surgery to
be rescheduled.
- If a child is having surgery, one parent
must remain in the hospital at all times.
- Safety standards require that a responsible
adult must accompany any patient who will
receive anesthetics or sedatives and is going
home the same day. You must arrange for an
adult to drive you home after surgery.
- We ask that only one or two visitors accompany
a patient having outpatient surgery. No children
under the age of 14 are allowed as visitors.
When you arrive in Outpatient Surgery
Please check in with the secretary in the waiting room on the second floor.
After you complete some necessary paperwork, a nurse will escort you to the patient care area. The nurse will check your vital signs and ask you a few questions. The nurse will also be happy to answer any questions you may have at that time.
We will give you a bag for your clothes and ask you to change into a hospital gown. You will then get into a bed so that you will be comfortable while you wait for transport to surgery.
After the Outpatient Surgery nurse checks you in, a member of the anesthesia team and your operating room nurse will meet with you.
When the pre-op process is complete, you will be taken to the Operating Room.
