After you return home

It is very important for you to follow your discharge instructions when you return home. You may be drowsy from your medications for up to 24 hours. It is very important for a responsible adult to be with you for the day and night following your surgery. This is for your protection and safety.

Do NOT drive a car for 24 hours.
Do NOT operate machinery, power tools or appliances.
Do NOT drink any alcohol.
Do NOT make any important decisions or sign important papers.

Eat lightly for your first meal. Restaurant meals, especially fast food, are too heavy to eat on the day of surgery.

Keep your discharge instructions near your telephone or refrigerator so that you have the phone number to call if you have any questions or if problems arise.
