Leadership Letters

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your interest in the Master Facility Planning process at University Health System. We hope you find this website useful. Our goal is to offer an overview of the extensive research and analysis we performed to determine how your county hospital district, and your lead Level I trauma center, can best continue to meet the critical and growing needs of our community and trauma region.

Throughout this process we are continually focused on who we are working for - the patients we serve and our owners, the people of Bexar County. Our objective is to develop and implement a plan that will address not only the need to expand facilities, but also the need to improve workflow and capitalize on the latest technologies to maximize operational efficiency.

From this effort, we have learned that University Hospital - which serves a unique and lifesaving mission as South Texas' lead trauma center - is too small to keep up with today's demand for services, and not at all prepared to meet the future needs of our growing population or a largescale disaster. We also learned that providing the right mix of diagnostic and treatment services, at both the hospital and University Health System - Robert B. Green Campus, will enable us to increase access to care and better focus on preventive services.

Our commitment to improving the health of our community is strong, as is our pledge to do everything within our power to stand ready - every day, around the clock - to provide lifesaving care to you or your loved one when you need us most.

The University Health System Board of Managers, an independent board appointed by Bexar County Commissioners to provide governance over the Bexar County Hospital District d/b/a University Health System is working closely with our Master Facility Planning Steering Committee to move forward with implementing the recommendations outlined in this report. As we do so, we will keep you informed of our progress.
