Dreams really do come true!
-Celebrating the power of learning: National Employee Learning Week Dec. 3-7-
(SAN ANTONIO, TX - December 3, 2007 ) When Drajica Tomovic moved from Bosnia to the
United States 2002, she came with a big dream - to become a U.S. citizen. She knew her dream
would take lots of hard work and dedication, so she applied herself and today she's reaping the
benefits.
Drajica, 44, took the required citizenship tests and passed with "Red, white and blue" flying colors!
She says her life will never be the same. "I really feel good about this. I'm so happy." She spent
most of her life in Tuzla (central area of northern Bosnia), located on the southeast slopes of the
Majevica Mountain. "It's been 5½ years since I move to the U.S. and it's been really great. It's the
best move of my life."
When she arrived to the U.S., she couldn't speak one word of English, so she signed up for English
classes to better communicate with others. Today, she has lots of conversations with co-workers,
visitors and patients. "This has been my dream. I really like living in America and working at
University Hospital. The English classes have helped me so much." Drajica is a team leader in the
Environmental Services Department at University Hospital. "It's a great feeling to be able to
communicate with everyone. I really enjoy my job and my new country. I'm still learning, but I've
come a long way," she smiles.
