UPDATE: Family located, Anton Karunaratne going home to Sri Lanka

University Health System is happy to report the family of Anton Karunaratne has been found and "Mr. K" will be returning home to Sri Lanka on December 8. Mr. K was brought to University Hospital on November 15 by the San Antonio Police Department after he was found wandering in downtown. He is well enough to be released from the hospital, but has not been able to communicate where he lives or provide contact information for any family or friends. University Hospital released a photo of Mr. K along with the limited information available about him to local media outlets. Thanks to the efforts of several people, who helped spread the word on this missing person, his sister and daughter were located and made contact with the hospital. Arrangements are underway for Anton Karunaratne to fly home to Sri Lanka.

University Hospital searching for family of homeless patient

(SAN ANTONIO – November 20, 2008) Social workers at University Hospital need your help in finding friends and family of 55-year-old Anton Karunaratne. Social workers are hoping someone will come forward to help him return home.

Mr. Karunaratne was admitted at University Hospital on November 15 after being found by police in the downtown area. He is now ready to be discharged but doesn’t have any recollection of his current home address or the names of the relatives or friends he had probably been living with.

Without a safe place to go, University Hospital can not release him, so hospital officials are asking the community to help find his family. Mr. Karanaratne says he is a native of Sri Lanka but is not able to remember any family history.
