Ten Candles to Blow Out

-Celebrating Ten Years of Community Health Services-

The University Family Health Center-Southeast (UFHC-SE), one of six University Health System community clinics, celebrates ten years of service to East Side residents on Saturday, October 27 with a wide range of free health activities and screenings for the entire family. The clinic opened its doors in 1997 and has grown to provide about 54 thousand patient visits per year.

The theme of the anniversary celebration, Circle of Life, describes the rich and diverse cultures of the patients who call the Southeast clinic their medical home. Dr. Priti Mody-Bailey, Medical Director of UFHC-SE, says, "This clinic provides primary and prevention services close to home for thousands of patients who may otherwise have limited access to these important services."

University Health System began opening outpatient clinics in the early 1990s, to improve the health of the community by reaching out with health services where the need was the greatest. The six clinics currently provide more than 365 thousand visits each year. Without these clinics, the University Hospital Emergency Center would be even more strained and overcrowded.

UFHC-SE provides family medicine, pediatrics, women's health services, immunizations, family planning, health promotion, radiology, pharmacy, internal medicine, health education, and well-child checkups.

The celebration will offer a variety of health services, including:

• Diabetes screenings
• Pregnancy tests
• Blood pressure screenings
• Healthy cooking demonstrations
• Based upon availability, flu shots will be given for a fee
