University Health System says, pin one on for Fiesta -- instead of tying one on! Don't drink and drive!
UHS celebrates Fiesta with Commemorative Medal
(SAN ANTONIO, TX - April 19, 2006) While San Antonians prepare for the City's BIGGEST street party of the year, University Health System (UHS) reminds Fiesta goers to stay sober behind the wheel and drink responsibly.
While residents gear up for the festivities, doctors, nurses and emergency technicians at the Level 1 Trauma Center at University Hospital are making plans for the typical "Fiesta spike" in trauma patients (most of which involve alcohol).
Since 40% of all trauma-related injuries involve alcohol, wide-spread irresponsible behavior over Fiesta could result in an even larger than expected number of trauma patients over the 10-day period. This is particularly concerning, since University Hospital is often operating over-capacity, forcing the ER to divert patients to other hospitals.
A great way to support the trauma center and celebrate Fiesta this year is to be responsible with alcohol AND purchase one of UHS' 50th Anniversary Commemorative Fiesta Medals for $5. 100% of all sales will go to the UHS Foundation Nursing Scholarship Fund, to help provide more nurses for our community. The medals are available at University Hospital and the University Health Center-Downtown (Brady-Green).
