What has big ears, a long neck and a couple of brass badges?

BACKGROUND: No, it's not a mutant rabbit - but the Easter Bunny, and his VIP security detail, heading to University Hospital to visit pediatric patients.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus and San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood, with special assistance from Toys R' Us' Geoffrey the Giraffe, will be escorting the Easter Bunny as he visits kids who won't be able to hunt for Easter Eggs - or even wake up in their own beds - Easter morning.

Being a kid in the hospital is not much fun, especially during holidays like Easter. That's why the Bexar County Emergency Scene Rehab team is sponsoring this "top brass" visit that will include Easter treats for University Hospital's young patients.

As the only Pediatric Level I Trauma Center in all of South Texas, University Hospital cares for children who have been involved in car crashes, falls and other traumatic incidents. Every year, University Hospital also cares for hundreds of children who have been seriously burned.

Many of these young patients have experienced a great deal of pain, undergone complicated surgical procedures and are still coping with devastating emotional issues. So, in addition to making them well enough to eventually go home, one of our very important missions is to make some happy hospital memories.

The staff of the Janey Briscoe Pediatric Unit at University Hospital is extremely grateful to the Bexar County Emergency Scene Rehab team, Chief McManus, Chief Hood, as well as, the Easter Bunny and Geoffrey, for taking this time to bring some smiles to our patients.
