How Old is Your Heart?

February 29, 2012

Find out this Wednesday at a free heart health screening at University Hospital

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for U.S. men and women, and most people who die suddenly from cardiovascular-related diseases have no previous symptoms. Your risk of having a heart attack or developing heart disease is much higher if you have high blood pressure and/or high cholesterol. In fact, these factors alone can double your risk. Type 2 diabetes is also a significant risk factor. Do you know your blood pressure and cholesterol numbers? Have you had your blood sugar checked recently? If not, what you don’t know can kill you.

Meet the cardiovascular team at University Hospital and have your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar checked this Wednesday. Once you have “your numbers,” you can plug them into University Health System’s new Heart Age online test. In about five minutes, you’ll know how fast or slow your heart is aging compared to your actual age. Increasing your risk awareness is an important step towards better health! No appointment needed. The free heart screening event will be held in the lobby of the hospital.

Can’t make it? The new online Heart Health Assessment is also available online at: www.CheckMyHeartAge.com.
