From Breastfeeding Boot Camp to the Brother’s and Sister’s Club, University Hospital’s Department of Women’s and Newborn Services is fully committed to getting the whole family ready for the special event.

Many classes are free and offered in both English and Spanish. For registration and information, please call 210/ 358-TALK (8255). Our TALK representatives can also help you locate an OB/GYN physician and pediatrician.

Any mother who completes Child Safety Seat 101 with three other Baby U classes and delivers her baby at University Hospital qualifies for a free car seat and installation.

Baby Safe Place Class
Provides information on furniture, toys and childcare activities that are safe for babies under one year of age. This class is located in the Alpha Phi Baby Safe Place, 5th floor, University Hospital NICU.

Baby Shower Tour
Personal tours of University Hospital’s beautiful new “baby suites” including the labor and delivery areas and newborn nursery. You’ll receive a special baby shower gift at the end of the tour. Offered in English and Spanish.

Baby U in a Day*
An intensive guide to newborn care, child safety seats, and infant CPR for expectant parents and grandparents. This class is located in the NICU Classroom, 5th floor, University Hospital.

Childbirth Class
Series of classes covering anatomy and physiology, pregnancy changes, nutrition, techniques for breathing, relaxation, pushing, pain medications/management, caesarean deliveries, postpartum care, postpartum depression, a brief review of baby care and a tour of the unit. This is an ongoing program with different start dates for Spanish and English. This class is located in the the FDU/Childbirth Classroom, 4th floor, University Hospital.

Child Safety Seat 101
This 90-minute class is recommended for parents and grandparents who are purchasing and/or installing car seats. The class is offered in English and Spanish. The Spanish class is offered as part of the Baby U in a Day Class. Classes meet in the Child Safe Place Room, 5th floor, University Hospital.

A class for dads-to-be taught by a new dad who is also a registered nurse. Provides expectant fathers with a basic understanding of newborn care and infant safety. This class, which is only offered in English, meets in the NICU Classroom, 5th floor, University Hospital.
