Surgery

Loved ones visiting a patient undergoing neurosurgery can feel confident knowing that every patient is monitored extremely closely thanks to our low patient-to-nurse ratio. Family members may wait in the inpatient OR waiting room at the hospital. A phone in the waiting room enables the surgical nurse to update family members during surgery. After the operation is completed, the surgeon will come out to the waiting room and answer any questions family members may have.

Intensive Care

After surgery and post-operative recovery, adult patients undergoing neurosurgery are transferred to the Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit (STICU). Here, highly-trained STICU nurses care for no more than two patients at a time to ensure each patient’s condition is watched closely. Rest is very important during this stage of the recovery process, so the STICU is a locked unit and family and friends may only visit during the designated visiting hours. Children under 14 may not visit the STICU unless special permission is granted by the nurse manager.

Pediatric patients undergoing neurosurgery are cared for at the Janey Brisco Children’s Center located on the 9th floor of the hospital.

Visiting Hours

9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
1:30 – 4 p.m.
8 – 10:30 p.m.

Family members who choose to remain at the hospital while their loved one is in the STICU are able to use a large waiting area located on the 8th floor of the hospital. A courtesy phone located in this area enables nurses to contact family members with condition reports.
