Charles Akos Szabo, M.D., is the Director of the Epilepsy Surgery Program at the University Health System and is Director of Clinical Services of the South Texas comprehensive epilepsy Center. He is an associate professor in Neurology and Chief of the Epilepsy Division at the UTHSC at San Antonio. Dr. Szabo completed a clinical neurophysiology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Szabo is board-certified in Neurology with added qualifications in Clinical Neurophysiology.
Jose E. Cavazos, M.D., Ph.D., is the Director of Education and Research of the South Texas Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, Director of the Clinical Neurophysiology fellowship program at UTHSCSA and the Director of Epilepsy at the Audie Murphy Veterans’ Administration Hospital. He is an associate professor, clinician and researcher in Neurology and Pharmacology at the UTHSCSA. Dr. Cavazos completed a clinical neurophysiology fellowship at Duke University. Dr. Cavazos is board-certified in Neurology with added qualifications in Clinical Neurophysiology.
Lola Morgan, M.D., is the medical director of the EEG laboratory and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at University Health System. She is an assistant professor in Neurology. Dr. Morgan completed a clinical neurophysiology fellowship at the University of California at San Diego. Dr. Morgan is board-certified in Neurology with added qualifications in Clinical Neurophysiology. She also supervises the Ketogenic Diet Clinic.
Linda Leary, M.D., is a clinician-educator in Pediatric Epilepsy and Neurology with experience in clinical research. She completed her clinical neurophysiology fellowship at the Neurological Institute of the New York and served as the Clinical Head of Pediatric Epilepsy at the Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian and Neurological Institute before coming here. She is an associate professor in Pediatrics and Neurology. She is board-certified in Child Neurology with added qualifications in Clinical Neurophysiology.
Kameel Karkar, M.D.,is an assistant professor in Neurology. He completed a two-year Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology fellowship at the University of California at San Francisco. He is board-certified in Neurology, and works as a clinician and researcher in epilepsy.
Jean-Louis Caron, M.D., is the Deputy Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery and directs the Neurosurgery Residency Program. He has performed epilepsy surgery at the UTHSCSA since 2003. He is board-certified in Neurosurgery.
Karin McCoy, Ph.D.,is an assistant professor in the Department of Neurosurgery. Dr. McCoy completed postdoctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. McCoy is board-certified in Neuropsychology.
Angela M. Velez, M.D.,is an assistant professor in Neurology and Psychiatry. She provides experience in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy-related psychiatric disorders and psychogenic nonepileptic seizures. She completed a clinical neurophysiology fellowship at UTHSCSA with a special interest in Sleep Medicine. She is board-certified in Psychiatry and Sleep Disorders. She is the medical director of the Sleep Center at University Health System.
