Faith and Hope for all
In times of hardship, we instinctively seek places that give
us hope and bring comfort. We look to nature's serene
places and calming elements that impart a sense of inner
peace. The Peveto Center for Pastoral Care offers University
Health System patients from all faiths a stand-alone facility
for prayer and reflection in times of need.
Located in the main lobby garden of University Hospital,
the Peveto Center for Pastoral Care provides an intimate
prayer, worship, meeting and meditation space for
individuals and groups of all faiths and denominations.
The Peveto Center is open 24 hours a day to all
individuals, including on-call clergy, who are
welcome to use the center for
services, confession
and spiritual care.
Funded through community donations, the building and programs of the Peveto Center are intended to honor the memory and legacy of Freda Peveto, and honor John Peveto for his many gifts and contributions to the Health System and its patients.
An Environment
of Comfort
The Peveto Center's design is
inspired by natural forms and is
built of natural materials. A steel
compression ring roof tops concrete
load bearing walls veneered in
Texas shell stone. An oculus in
the center of the facility provides
natural light to the glass tabletop
which serves as a symbolic and
non-denominational altar. The
water wall and quiet spirals create
a contemplative shelter, providing
comfort and peace to those in
need. With room for more than
50 people, the Peveto Center also
includes a small meditation room,
office and outdoor garden.
Our Philosophy
The Peveto Center for Pastoral Care is anchored in its
mission to provide support for patients, families and
staff struggling to manage the burdens of care, illness
and bereavement. The center offers comprehensive
and compassionate programs for patients and families
through all phases and treatment settings. It is a place
of respite and effective counseling for health care
professionals and volunteers.
