Baby girl is born 10 seconds after midnight —

(S(San Antonio, TX – January 1, 2012) While San Antonians were busy greeting the New Year with friends and family last night, Shekinah Rain Shanice Jiles was greeting the world with her first cries of life at University Hospital. Parents Fiona and Marcus Jiles say they are excited about their new baby girl and thankful she’s in good health, despite being born six weeks early. Mrs. Jiles gave birth at exactly 10 seconds after midnight. She and her husband had no idea that she was the first baby born in San Antonio until nurses came in with the exciting news a few minutes later. Because she was born premature, she is being cared for in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at University Hospital, but thankfully she is in good condition. “She’s such a blessing to us,” said first-time dad, Mr. Jiles, who is a San Antonio native. We are so very happy.”

Little Shekinah weighed 5 pounds, 6 ounces and is 17 inches long. As San Antonio’s first baby of 2012, she and her parents will enjoy a big gift package from local hospitals in celebration of health, happiness and life. In addition, the University of the Incarnate Word presented her with a $10,000 college scholarship.

Baby Shekinah made her San Antonio debut at a special media conference held in the NICU. This is the first time for University Hospital’s NICU to host San Antonio’s Baby New Year!
