What to expect during your mammography?

E-mail

When you arrive at the Healthy U Express you will be greeted by one of our staff who will go over some of your personal information for identity purposes (home address, phone number, etc.). You will then proceed to a private changing room and move to the mammography suite. Our radiology technician will briefly talk to you about your health history and complete your exam. A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast tissue intended to look for any changes or abnormalities that may be present. During the exam, the breast is placed between two plates and a digital image is taken. Once the mammogram is finished, you will return to the private changing room.

Your mammogram images are read by our certified radiologists at University Health System - Breast Center at the Cancer Therapy & Research Center (CTRC). Results are sent to the Healthy U Express and our staff will contact you in a manner you prefer (i.e email, phone or letter). In addition, the results will also be mailed to your primary care physician if you requested this on your registration form.

If you need further evaluation, you may visit your personal doctor or we can refer you to a breast health specialist at University Health System. Follow-up appointments are typically made within 24 hours for a diagnostic screening or as quickly as insurance requirements allow.

Please remember to wear a separate top and bottom and avoid using powder, lotion or perfume.

The mammogram should take approximately 30 minutes, including registration time.
