James Adams is Vice Chairman of University Health System's Board of Managers and serves on the board's Budget & Finance Committee. Bexar County Judge Cyndi Taylor Krier appointed Adams in 1998.
Adams received his bachelor's degree in math and physics from Texas A & M University. He earned his master's degree in statistics and business finance at the University of Texas at Austin.
Adams is retired from Texas Instruments, where he served as chairman of the board. He previously had retired from SBC Communications as Group President for International Operations and from Southwestern Bell Telephone as President/CEO.
Adams, a southside native, currently sits on the board of directors of Texas Instruments. He serves on the Engineering Advisory Board of the University of Texas and on the School of Science Advisory Board at Texas A&M University.
Adams is the Co-Founder of the Dallas Partnership, the economic arm of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce, and chaired the Economic Development Task Force, initiated by Governor Bill Clements to develop legislative plans for the Governor's Office.
He also serves on a number of local community boards, including several focusing on education for Latino youth. He is president of the Harlandale Education Foundation which provides scholarships to graduating seniors from his home school district to enable them to access an institution of higher education.
Adams is a deacon and trustee at Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio.

Alexander Briseño serves on University Health System's Board of Managers Budget & Finance Committee. Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff appointed Briseño in 2001.
Briseño retired as City Manager of San Antonio in March of 2001, after serving almost 11 years in office. In this role, he managed the administration of a full-service municipal government as directed by City Council and oversaw an annual budget of $1.2 billion. Briseño supervised the activities of all San Antonio City departments, which included 12,000 employees, and served a community of more than 1.1 million residents and 417 square miles.
He began his career with the City of San Antonio in 1977 as Assistant to the City Manager. In 1980, he was promoted to Assistant City Manager. Prior to his service with the city, he earned the rank of Captain while serving in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps.
A graduate of Central Catholic High School in San Antonio, he received a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's in urban studies from Trinity University.
Briseño is active in the community, having served on the boards of directors for the Boy Scouts of America (Alamo Area Council), Free Trade Alliance of San Antonio, and the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County. Briseño is also a member of Trinity University's Board of Visitors, the Board of Directors of the Masters Leadership Program of San Antonio and Bexar County, and the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
A Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration, Briseño has received many honors over the years including, an ASPA National Public Service Award; an ICMA Program Excellence Award for Outstanding Partnerships in Intergovernmental Cooperation; an ICMA L.P. Cookingham Award of Excellence for Career Development; an ICMA Award of Program Excellence for Innovations in Local Governments; a YWCA Mentor and Allies Award; and a San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Community Leader Award.

Rebecca Quintanilla Cedillo serves on University Health System’s Board of Managers Planning & Operations Committee. Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff appointed Cedillo to the Board of Managers in 2006.
Cedillo is President of Strategic Initiatives Consulting, a firm that provides strategic planning, organizational and policy development, as well as other management services to businesses and public agencies. She also serves as an adjunct professor for the St. Mary's University graduate Public Administration Program.
She is currently on several civic boards, as well as a city and county appointee to task forces related to public policy, strategic planning, natural resource and urban planning issues.
Cedillo's career includes over 25 years of service to municipal governments. She recently retired from the San Antonio Water System (SAWS), where she began her service as Vice President of Planning and was ultimately appointed Chief of Water Resources. Prior to SAWS, Ms. Cedillo served as Director of Planning for the City of San Antonio.
She received her bachelor's degree in political science from St. Mary's University. She received her master's degree in city planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Cedillo's professional affiliations include Chair of the Intergovernmental Affairs Division of the American Planning Association, Water Resources Council member of the American Water Works Association and the Urban Land Institute. In addition, she served as secretary of the Alamo Public Telecommunications Executive Board (KLRN). Cedillo is also a member of the United Way of San Antonio Board of Directors, the San Fernando Cathedral Community Centre business affairs and strategic planning committees, Leadership Texas, St. Mary's University Academic Affairs Council, and the San Antonio Parks Foundation.
She is a recipient of several awards for municipal planning projects, as well as author and presenter of numerous professional articles.

Robert Engberg is the Chairman of the Budget & Finance Committee for University Health System's Board of Managers. Bexar County Commissioner Walter Belstein appointed Engberg in 1992.
Engberg is Vice Chairman of Capitol Aggregates, LTD., a subsidiary of the Zachry Corporation and a non-practicing Certified Public Accountant.
He received his bachelor's degree in business administration from St. Mary's University and continued his education at the Harvard Business School where he completed the school's Program for Management Development.
Prior to joining Zachry, Engberg worked at Price Waterhouse & Co. His experience at Zachry includes working in the company's aviation, real estate and construction materials units.
Engberg serves on the board of directors of the Portland Cement Association. He is also a past board chair for both the Portland Cement Association and the Texas Aggregate and Concrete Association and is a member of the board of directors for San Antonio AirLife.

Robert L. Jimenez, M.D., is the Chairman of University Health System's Board of Managers and serves as an ex-officio member of the board’s Planning & Operations and Budget & Finance committees. Bexar County Commissioner Paul Elizondo appointed Dr. Jimenez in 1992.
Jimenez received his bachelor's degree in biology and philosophy from St. Mary's University. He later received his medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. His residency was completed at Boston State Hospital's Psychiatric Training Program and Boston University Medical Center's Division of Psychiatry.
Jimenez has received a wide array of honors, including League of United Latin-American Citizen College Scholarship, a Ginsberg Fellow by the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry, and recognition as Outstanding Community Person by the Massachusetts Minority Council on Alcoholism.
Jimenez is an active member of several professional organizations. Current positions include Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Consultant for the San Antonio State Hospital, the Audie L. Murphy Veterans Administration Hospital Research Psychiatric Unit and the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation (M.H.M.R.).
Jimenez is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Center for Health Care Services, which is the mental health authority of Bexar County. He serves as Medical Director for the Patrician Movement and for adult programs at Charter Real Hospital. He is member of the Texas Task Force on State and Local Drug Control, and serves on the admissions committee for The UT Health Science Center. Additionally, Dr. Jimenez serves on the Governing Council of the American Hospital Association’s Psychiatric and Substance Abuse Services Section.

Ira Smith, Jr., is Chairman of the Planning & Operations Committee for the University Health System Board of Managers. Smith was appointed by Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Adkisson in 2003.
Smith is a graduate of St. Mary's University. Now retired, he served City Public Service (CPS Energy) for many years in a variety of leadership roles, including Director of Central Services, Director of Technical Services, and Director of Computer Services. A leader in the San Antonio community, Smith has held a number of key positions on boards and committees. He has chaired the United Way of Texas Board of Trustees; the United Way Stewardship Review Process and was a member of the United Way Allocation
Panel. He served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Funding Information Center during his 1989-1995 tenure. He is a member, and past President, of the 100 Black Men of America, the San Antonio Chapter and is a member, and past President, of the Van Courtlandt Social Club.
Between 1977 and 1987, Smith served as a trustee of the Bexar County Mental Health and Mental Retardation Center. During his tenure, he served as chairman. He also has the distinction of being the only San Antonioan to serve as Chairman of the Board for the statewide Texas Council of Community Mental Health and Retardation Centers.
Smith is no stranger to healthcare in San Antonio. Prior to his appointment to the Board of Managers, he served on the Community Board for the Methodist and Metropolitan Hospitals. Previously, he was a member of the boards of directors for both the Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital and the Methodist Healthcare Ministries.

Linda Rivas serves on University Health System’s Board of Managers Planning & Operations Committee. Bexar County Commissioner Sergio "Chico" Rodriguez appointed Rivas in 2005.
Rivas is the President of SER- Jobs for Progress of San Antonio, a non-profit community-based organization committed to securing employment opportunities and upgrading the employability of workers in San Antonio.
In 2006, Rivas was appointed to serve on the Board of Directors of SER-Jobs for Progress National, Inc. SER National addresses the education, employment, and economic needs of Hispanics and other underrepresented groups across America. The SER Network consists of 43 Partners operating in more than 200 offices in 19 states, Puerto Rico and Washington D.C.
With a staff of 205, and in a time of economic downturn, SER was able to place over 70 percent of its participants into meaningful employment. Within her first year as president, the Alamo workforce development area ascended to #1 status in performance measures for Food Stamps/Employment and Training, the Workforce Investment Act and the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families program for the state of Texas.
Rivas served as co-chair for the American Diabetes Association Walk America in 2005 and 2006; chair of the Alamo Community College District Bond Committee for Workforce; and chair of the Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards Selection Committee in 2005. She is also a member of the City of San Antonio's Cultural Collaborative Steering Committee.
Rivas was honored by National League of United Latin American Citizens for Leadership in Workforce Development for Texas and the Nation in 2005, recognized by Image de San Antonio as "Hispanic Woman Role Model" in 2003; honored by La Prensa Foundation, Inc. with a Latina Business Women in Action Award in 2002; and named "Corporate Woman of the Year" in 2001 by the San Antonio Women's Chamber of Commerce.
