2008 Most Wired SurveyHigh-tech hospitals deliver better outcomes for patients according to the findings of the 2008 Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study. University Health System has been recognized as one of the 100 Most Wired Hospitals and Health Systems in the nation. Hospitals & Health Networks magazine, the journal of the American Hospital Association, conducted the study, which focuses on how the nation’s hospitals use information technology for quality, customer service, public health, safety, business processes and workforce issues.

Best Hospitals 2006 - U.S. News & World Report University Hospital, the primary teaching hospital for The UT Health Science Center at San Antonio, is the only San Antonio hospital to be routinely ranked as one of U.S. News & World Report's best hospitals. The magazine evaluates over 5,000 U.S. hospitals as part of its annual "America's Best Hospitals" study. They have consistently found University to meet the rigorous criteria to be recognized as a Top 50 hospital in at least one of 16 key medical/surgical specialties.

For the 7th consecutive year, University Health System’s Department of Respiratory Care received the American Association of Respiratory Care Quality Respiratory Care Recognition Award. Just 15 percent of all hospitals in the nation received this prestigious award.

University Health System has received one of the most prestigious recognitions for information technology – HIMSS Analytics’ EMR Adoption Model “Stage 6” designation. Less than one percent of all healthcare organizations in the nation have achieved this stage of integration.  Level 7 is the highest, and currently no healthcare organizations have met this standard.   HIMSS has recognized UHS as “a great example to our industry on transforming information technology environments to achieve a level of patient care this is only a vision in most hospitals today.”

In 2006, University Health System, in partnership with The UT Health Science Center at San Antonio, was recognized as one of the Top 50 hospitals in the nation in three specialties - Heart/Heart Surgery, Orthopedics and Endocrinology (hormonal disorders, primarily diabetes care).

Castle Connolly Medical Ltd, a healthcare research and information company, has identified the top doctors in America to provide consumers with detailed information about their education, training and special expertise. University Health System uses such doctors. Valuable information on outstanding hospitals, such as University Hospital, is also available, since it is the top hospitals that attract the top doctors.

America's Top Doctors For the second consecutive year, University Health System is ranked among the top 100 hospitals in the nation for clinical and management performance improvement.  The Solucient 100 Top Hospitals Performance Improvement Leaders study, measures the rate and consistency of hospital-wide performance over five consecutive years.

Of the nation's 300 Level 1 and Level II trauma centers, University Health System was one of ten to receive funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and designation as a national Urgent Matters partner.

University Health System was also selected by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to participate in their Expecting Success program which focuses on improving cardiovascular care for African-American and Latino patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. More than 120 hospitals and health systems applied to be pilot sites; 10 that represent a cross-section of the U.S. hospital system were chosen.

5-Star Community Value Rating by Cleverley & AssociatesUniversity Health System was also recognized as one of the top ranked Community Value hospitals in the United States.  The findings are included in the State of the Hospital Industry — 2006 Edition, released by Cleverley & Associates, a leading healthcare financial consulting firm specializing in operational benchmarking and performance enhance strategies.

American Association of Respiratory Care's 'Quality Respiratory Care Recognition' awardRanked 25th in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, University Health System's prestigious respiratory disorders program benefits from support provided by the Respiratory Care Department, recognized by the American Association of Respiratory Care with their "Quality Respiratory Care Recognition" award for three years in a row (2003-2005).
